Research activities:

In 2010, Maarten Aerts obtained his PhD in Biochemistry at the Laboratory for Protein Biochemistry and Biomolecular Engineering (L-ProBE) from the Ghent University. His global research interests involve proteomics and more particular the use of high-resolution mass spectrometry for identifying and quantifying eukaryotic proteomes. After his changeover to the Laboratory of Microbiology, he is currently exploring new possibilities of mass spectrometry as a fast and reliable method for the identification and characterization of bacterial isolates with a strong focus on prokaryotic cell wall components.
